About Arthur: Arthur O. Raschefsky was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 16, 1948 and was baptized shortly afterwards in Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit. He received his bachelors degree from Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois. He was a resident of Chicago for twenty years prior to his death. His last position was as executive director of the Anawim Fund of Truman College in Chicago. The Anawim Fund of the Midwest is people of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin working together who help solve the problems of poverty. By lending money to organizations that serve basic human needs and to minority-owned enterprises that lack access to capital, the Anawim Fund helped people help themselves. This revolving loan fund was established by more than 39 religious orders and not-for-profit organizations. He was active in and served as a member of the board of directors of the Hyde Park Coop. He assisted fifty community groups as they began their neighborhood food co-ops. He died on October 9, 1990; his burial place is in Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia, Michigan. When Art wrote about his own death, he said: "I want the people I knew and cared about to remember me while I was alive. The value of me as an individual, lies in the way I have lived, the lifestyle I embraced, the manner in which I dealt with people. I would much rather have people give some thought to my values and ideals."
