About Jay: Principal Jay Floetke was born in Detroit, Michigan - where his father, William, still resides. Other than a year and a half at Wayne State University in Detroit, all of his primary and secondary education took place in a Lutheran setting: Christ the King Lutheran School (Southgate, Michigan); Detroit Lutheran High School West; Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska (from which he was awarded the Bachelor of Education Degree).

He student taught at Concordia Lutheran School in Peoria, Illinois, in 1970. He accepted an assignment to teach at Immanuel Lutheran School in Springfield, Illinois - where he taught for one-half a year. In 1971, he was called to St. John Lutheran School in West Bend, Wisconsin. After 5 years in Wisconsin, Jay came to Kansas, first teaching at Topeka Lutheran School (obviously, in Topeka). In 1985, Jay earned a Master of Education degree from Washburn University (Topeka, Kansas) while teaching at TLS. In 1986, he was called to serve in his current position as Principal at St. Paul Lutheran School in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Jay's wife, Pam, is a "PK" - a "preacher's kid" (her father, Rev. Martin Russert, is retired in Norfolk, Nebraska). The Floetkes have been married since 1971 - and they have five children: daughter, Kami Stone (who is married to Sean); and sons Jason (who is married to Dana), Josh, Zach and Sam. They are grandparents to Kami's children, Kelsey and Kate, and Jason's daughter, Jalyn.

Jay lists his family as his primary interest in life - followed by his students, faculty and staff. Grilling and FOX News are also enjoyable avocations
