About Karl: After graduation, Karl worked six weeks for the Ford Motor Company. He HATED it. He started working for General Motors/Detroit Diesel on October 13, 1966. He worked three years as hourly employee.
In January 1969, Karl married his Kindergarten sweetheart, Kaye Sherron. They have one son, Kirk (and a grand puppy named Eva). Kirk was born in 1977. He is single and owns his home in Clio. He went to Baker College and received an Associates Degree in CAD Design. He went to work for a civil engineering firm for the next 14 years as a CAD operator. At this time, he and eleven coworkers were laid off permanently. He then went back to school and is now a Certified Pharmacy Tech at Diplomat Pharmacy Services Flint (Worldwide).
In November of 1968, Karl became a maintenance supervisor working at Detroit Diesel Redford until 1980, when he was transferred to the Romulus warehouse. He worked there until 1990 when GM closed the warehouse. Karl was transferred to the Service Parts Operation Swartz Creek/Flint Plant. At this location, Karl was supervisor over the shipping operations. They moved to Flushing, Michigan, where they are now members of Holy Cross Lutheran (Flushing). This was a lot different than living in Detroit.
In 1996, Karl became ill and in December 1998, when he was unable to return work, he was finally given a medical retirement. At this time, Karl took over most of the household chores and Kaye went back to work full time (she couldn't stand Karl chasing her around the house). Thankfully, Karl's health has improved and he is able to enjoy life. Retirement has been great! He doesn't miss the work; just the people.
Kaye and Karl spend time watching and walking their son's dog, Eva. She is a 80-pound German Shepherd and her grandpa's baby girl. Karl loves just relaxing at the summer home in the woods of Lewiston, Michigan, spending time with family and friends and watching hockey, football, baseball and NASCAR. He is not a pro, but he enjoys using his computer for Facebook, email and playing games. Karl also enjoys taking and sending photos, the newspapers and the TV News up north. Before they bought the summer home in 1987, they camped all over the Eastern U.S. and Canada.
